How to Have Your Cake and Eat It Too [review]
A couple weeks ago I picked up Mandi Ehman’s new ebook How to Have Your Cake and Eat It Too. I loved the cover (yes, I judge books by their covers!) and the tagline really hooked me: How to Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too is for every mother who’s ever wondered if it’s possible to pursue her own passions while investing in her family and managing a home. I’ve been working online for quite some time as you know. I’ve created tons of mini niche sites, and I’ve grown a successful blog… but It’s a Wahm Life is really taking me into the realm of pursuing my passion… and I’m still feeling a little unsteady on my feet. I love Mandi’s blog(s) and would love to see her kind of success, doing exactly what I love. So...
The Last Oracle [Sigma Series Book Review]
I finally finished the next book in the Sigma Series. The Last Oracle, by James Rollins. These books just keep getting better and better. This one really grabbed my attention and held it to the very end. Well, let’s not jump ahead… here’s a synopsis. Commander Pierce is walking across the Washington Mall after finally giving up hope that his partner was still alive, after the escapades of the last book when a homeless man stumbles up to him and is suddenly shot by a sniper. As the homeless man is dying he gives Pierce an ancient coin. Pierce thinks he was the target of the assasination, but soon comes to find out he was not. The ancient coin leads back to the oracle of Delphi and begins to open up a trail which leads to a big secret alliance that...
Skyline: Movie Review
Sometimes I wonder why I let my husband have access to the movie queue at Netflix. He adds movies that have no business coming to our house. This weekend was another one of those movie days… Skyline had arrived a week or two ago, but we finally popped it in Saturday night. The movie features a relatively unknown cast, other than Donald Faison (from Scrubs). The movie begins with Jarod and his pregnant girlfriend heading out to LA (from New York) to see his old time friend and his wife. It’s Jarod’s friend Terry’s birthday and they all party through the night. In the wee hours of the morning strange blue lights descend upon LA. The lights seem to hypnotize anyone who looks directly at them, and leads them to an alien space craft. Jarod...
Summer Reading Challenge
I remember, every Summer when I was growing up I was involved in some kind of reading challenge. I think they were usually run out of the library… but I loved them. I love to read, and Hanna loves to read. YAY. Now that she’s out for Summer break and getting ready to go into Kindergarten next year, I think it’s the perfect time to start her Summer Reading Challenges. She’s currently in love with the number 100. So I thought what better number to choose for our challenge. We’ve got lots of books here, but I’d really like to see her read new books for the challenge. I’ve found a few lists online of “must read books before Kindergarten” and of course we’ll be going to the library. I enjoy sharing the...
The Judas Strain by James Rollins
I decided, since I love to read, it would be worth sharing my thoughts on books as I read them. I just finished reading The Judas Strain by James Rollins. I’ve been on a Rollins kick lately, and have read about 4 or 5 of his books in a row. The thing about James Rollins is this: they keep getting better! Many times I’ll find a new author and read a few of their books and end up not enjoying the later ones. This is not the case with James Rollins. He has basically 2 sets of books going on… the Sigma Force Series, and then the rest of his books. I have read some of both sets and really enjoy them. The Judas Strain is part of the Sigma Series. I like this series a lot because the same characters are in all the books. You start to feel like you...
Formula for Murder Book Review
As an avid reader, writer and mom I was delighted when I was recently contacted by the publisher to see if I would be willing to review Diana Orgain’s new book Formula for Murder. This is the third book in her Maternal Instincts Mystery series. The first two were wonderful, and I was really looking forward to diving into this one. Formula for Murder did not disappoint! From the very first page I was pulled in and taken on a fun and twisty murder mystery ride. I found myself thinking as I read the first couple pages “Oh no… they can’t… she can’t start the book this way!”. But she did. The events that pulled me into the first couple pages set the scene for the rest of the mystery. What I love about this book, as well as...
