When I was little my Grandma had an enormous Lilac bush in her back yard. When I was 10 we moved into a house, in NY, with Lilac bushes running the entire windowed length of the house. Each spring we’d open the windows and be inundated with the smell of Lilacs.
It always reminded me of my Grandma.
It’s also my favorite smell in the world.
When I moved back to Kansas and bought a house of my own, I went to my Grandma’s house, she’d long been passed, but the Lilac bush was still there. We dug out some starters, and planted them in our front yard.
Now every year my Lilac bush blooms, and it’s the time of year when the winds are beginning to come out of the south which blows the scent right into my house.
It’s still my favorite smell, and it still reminds me of my Grandma. The Lilacs are now in full bloom, and today, I’m going to make sure I cut some and bring them in the house so I can enjoy that smell all day. 🙂
What’s your favorite smell? Is there a way you can bring it into your daily life a little more?
