M is for Music

I’m not a HUGE music fan, but I also can’t deny that there are some songs, that instantly turn my mood around, or amp it up when I’m already in my happy place. My daughter? She’s a huge music person, so there’s almost always music playing (or being sung, loudly) around the house.

When I’m in a rough place, this song ALWAYS, instantly makes me feel better. I’m not a dancer, but this song, and a little encouragement from my kiddo, will have me starting an impromptu dance party every time.

If I’m already in a good mood, and just want to ramp it up this is my go to song.

When I want to feel powerful, and strong, I listen to this song. There’s a great story behind this one.

Years ago I went to my first “industry conference” in Austin Texas. It was the first time I’d gone to a conference. It was the first time I’d decided to do something for me, and made other plans for my family to live without me for weekend. I was feeling on top of the world, and on top of my business. The month after that conference I created my first 5 figure month.

While at the conference, in between speakers they played music. This was one of the songs they played over and over, and it always seemed, the same person, who I really admired and looked up to, would come out as this song began. He would sing, and jump up and down, and pump his fists in the air. I felt so strong, and powerful that weekend. Those intense emotions have been strongly anchored to this song through that experience, and now even today, when it comes on the radio, I’m instantly transported back to a hotel meeting room, in Austin TX and that feeling of power. It’s really quite amazing what music can do. <3

Last year my daughter decided to have a Karaoke party for her birthday. We hired a DJ and, I kid you not, the night before the party he called and canceled. I was FREAKING OUT!!! My mom decided to just give Hanna a karaoke machine for her birthday. I was NOT thrilled with this option, because I wasn’t sure I could handle listening to her scream into a karaoke machine for the rest of my life lol. Turns out it’s been the best gift ever, and probably the only gift that still gets used (and loved) on a regular basis, well besides Rosabell, her American Girl doll.

Plus, there’s nothing to change your mood quicker than screaming a Taylor Swift song into the karaoke machine with your kid. So even though I don’t really consider myself a “music” person, music is definitely part of the my toolbox when it comes to finding my happy place.

What about you? What song instantly takes you to a better feeling place?

Ok I love hall of fame, Love love love love love that song, did I say I love it?? lol

My MIL told me not to sing to my kids-she said I would make them tone deaf. My mother seconded her opinion, thus I probably shouldn’t sing, but I always sing along to the radio. I turn it up loud! I love songs that are totally not “in” and that is ok with me.

Great post, now I want to listen to those songs again, but it is super late and my husband would kill me-maybe tomorrow, heeh!
