You may or may not know I’ve been doing Weight Watchers for the last couple months. It’s been an interesting adventure. I’ve lost weight (YAY) and I also gained some clarity on why I was gaining weight. I then remembered (isn’t it crazy how easy it is to forget things we were completely awestruck by and thought we’d never forget?!) how good I felt when I trusted my body, and listened to it. I followed a few simple rules back then (and there was no tracking involved). The rules were simple: Eat when you’re hungry. Stop when you’re satisfied. Enjoy the hell out of every bite you put in your mouth. As I thought back to the time I was living this way I got a bit nostalgic and decided I wanted to go back there.
But, I really loved my weight watchers group… the friendships and people I’d met. The support I’d gotten. But, what I wanted now was to meet people who were on THIS journey, who were willing to trust their bodies, and listen to them. I want to not forget again… and the best way I know how to do this is connect with people who are doing what I am doing.
It got me thinking… where did I connect with this message?
From a book, of course lol.
It was when I read Women, Food and God that I got this message and lived this way (at least until I forgot). So I went to Facebook and searched Women, Food and God, and wouldn’t you know it… 5 or 6 groups on the subject! Not huge groups… but these are “my people”… how exciting!!
I started thinking about the way I’m looking at money, and getting through these kind of blocks and thought, wouldn’t it be cool to connect with some people who are thinking and living the same way.
Back to the source of those ideas? A book. (of course).
It was when I read Get Rich Lucky Bitch that my entire outlook on money changed. So I went in to Facebook and looked up Get Rich Lucky Bitch, and what do you know… groups and groups of people supporting each other in living this way.
One of my favorite groups of people, and some of my most favorite inspiration came out of joining groups related to both The Desire Map and the Create Your Amazing Life Workbook.
No matter what you’re trying to do, if you want to connect to other people doing the same thing… here’s one easy trick… dig down and find a book that is all about what you are doing, then go find other people who love that book on Facebook.
Then come back and tell me how it went. I really want to play with this idea and see if it works for more people than just me. 🙂 Leave me a message in the comments and tell me who you found.
Books like Start with Why, and Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself have connected me to the group of people who have most help me to get out of my own way, and build a successful business.
