Are you sharing your blog links on twitter, Facebook and Google + and no one seems to care? You’re not getting any clicks, and you’re ready to give up on this whole social media marketing scam?!
Wait.
I’m going to share with you the secret to getting people to care about your blog. It’s the secret that will have people following you, waiting for you to share your next post. More than that though, it’s going to make people care… not only about your blog, but you.
The thing is… people don’t care about blogs. They don’t care, even if you’re providing great content. People care about people. Period.
The trick to making people care, is letting them into your world. Let them see you as a real person. Let them feel what it’s like to live in your world, see your results, feel how you feel.
That’s a little esoteric, so let me give you an example.
While my blog is all about blogging, and marketing, and being a work at home mom… ultimately it’s about freedom. It’s about helping women create freedom in their lives, so they can work from home, make money to support their families, and always have time to spend on what’s most important… themselves, the garden, the kids, the dogs ~ it doesn’t matter what it is!
Yes, people want the 10 tips to drive traffic from G+, but there are approximately 3,597 posts with the same (or very similar) titles. Why should they read YOURS… or mine for that matter?
Because they know me, they like me, and they want the freedom I have.
How do they know this because I share it.
This week has been nuts… Monday I worked from 8-12pm. Tuesday I worked from 8 -10, had a massage, picked my kiddo up from school early. Yesterday I worked from 8 -10 then went to my mom’s house and helped her in her garden all afternoon. Today I’m probably going to end up working from 9 – 2:30 because tomorrow I’m not working at all ~ I’m going on a field trip with my kiddo.
Now it’s all fine and good to tell you that… but I want my readers to see it, feel it, yearn for it in their lives… and that’s not the job of this blog. That’s the job of what I call “lifestyle content”. That’s the content you create when you’re NOT at your computer… but you’re out living your life.
So it’s sharing a note to social media being excited about going for a massage at 11 am on a Tuesday morning. It’s sharing pics of my mom and I working in her garden at 1 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. It’s going to be lots of pictures from the zoo all day tomorrow.
Don’t have the level of freedom you want, quite yet?
No problem… take a picture of your commute… tell people this is why you’re working from home so you don’t have to do this anymore. Go to the farmer’s market on Saturday morning? Take a picture, share it… share the freedom you have, the choices you’re making, the fun you’re having in your life right now. Because right now is the only moment any of us have… and it might be the very moment someone sees your picture and makes a decision. They decide when they see you doing something to leave the rat race, that it’s their time.
Images can do that… and they DO do that!
But only if you share them.
You know what’s really cool about lifestyle content?
There are times when, in the middle of the day, when I still have work to do, I want to go on a bike ride. There’s part of me that says, stay here and finish your work. There’s a bigger part of me saying, you have the freedom to ride your bike in the middle of the day… get out there and do it. (That part usually wins). And, I take my camera and share that I’m FREE… on my bike, wind in my hair, Inner Circle in my ears, all in the middle of the day.. .because I felt like it. I was inspired to do it.
Being able to follow your inspiration because you have the freedom to do it is what people want. Most of them don’t realize it, but when they see you living it… it starts to dawn on them… that’s what they want. They don’t want a 15 minute break at 2:15. They want to be free.
Blogging can do that. Share yourself. Create more lifestyle content than you create blog content. Get out there, and LIVE, and share your freedom with your community. They will love you for it, and before you know it, they’ll be clicking on all your links trying to figure out exactly how you do it, and how they can do it too. <3
PS. Lifestyle content is also an AMAZING way to create interaction and engagement with your community. There is NEVER a time when I post a picture of my dog doing something silly that it doesn’t get a comment. Engagement is what creates a deeper relationship… #justsayin’
