I truly tip my hat to all you moms who have your toddlers potty trained. We have made several attempts to potty train Hanna and nothing has quite worked. She is now at the point where she runs to the potty after she has pooped and sits down, making a lovely poopy mess all over.
With my new found feeling of competency I have decided to make a full fledged effort to help her get potty trained this week. We have already tackled getting her sleeping in her own bed, and falling asleep on her own and it’s going quite well.
So far today, we have pooped in our pants, but no tinkles in our pants, but none on the potty either. IT seems unreal to me she hasn’t tinkled yet since she hasn’t gone since she got up this morning and has had lots to drink in effort to get her to pee.
We have set it up at this point where she gets a sticker for going tinkle on the potty. She loves stickers but htey are pretty accessible around here, so we upped the ante and said she could have a lolipop when she gets 2 stickers.
She LOVES lolipops and very rarely gets them, so that seems to be a huge motivating factor. I figure as she gets better at going on the potty we will increase the number of stickers she needs to get before getting a loli, but we just want her to start going.
She has usually started out well, sitting on the potty and being excited about it, but about half way through the first day she just starts yelling NOOOO when it comes time to sit on the potty. Not sure what that’s about, but the lolipop possibility seems to be overcoming this problem.
The problem I’m having is I’m trying to work and I forget to get her to the potty. This has been an ongoing problem with the whole potty training thing. This time I keep setting the timer, not only to remind her to sit on the potty but to remind myself to help her get there before she has an accident.
Any suggestions on this crazy topic would be greatly appreciated. Would love to hear how you all got your little ones potty trained. 🙂
I feel your pain. This is the start of week 3 of potty training my 2.5 year old son. He actually is doing better than I expected. I let him run around bare bottom most of the first two weeks at home (there were accidents the first two days and then one stray one but mostly no other ones) also we have a potty chart and he puts a sticker on there every time he potties (pee or poop) and at first he’d get 2 m&ms when he went, then it went down to 1 gummy worm and now we’re on 1 gum drop each time. Yes it’s way more candy than I ever let him have but it seems to be working and he gets the instant gratification of the stickers and the candy. Plus he likes to show off his chart and count the stickers and he doesn’t really have patience to wait to earn two stickers to get a candy yet. We will start doing that shortly though to wean from the candy. I don’t know if that helped any but if you need a potty chart I searched for potty chart. I found some really cute ones but ended up settling on one that has about 10 boxes across the page for each day of the week and we put a new one up every week. Then he choses a sticker to put in there. I don’t have to remind him anymore if he’s naked. If he has a pull-up on that’s another story. He won’t go when we’re out yet but at home he’s potty trained while awake. Good luck!
hey Christina,
Thanks! that is pretty helpful. I have heard the naked bum things works pretty well. I have wanted to try it, but she has some digestive issues and generally has pretty loose stool, which would be a huge mess to clean up.
We do have a potty chart, and maybe I should get some smaller candies like m & m’s, she’s never even had those, but I bet she would love them. (only problem would be me not devouring them myself lol).
We have not gotten one sticker on the chart yet today, but I’m hoping for a better day tomorrow. 🙂
