Getting in the Grocery Groove

When you start to change your diet, or choose to include new healthier choices in your diet it can be tough on your grocery bill. Those new things seem so foreign and strange. It can be tough to figure out exactly what you need and how to make it all work within your budget.

However, one day you’ll Β sit down to do your meal plan and realize you’ve got a better handle on things and you’ll be able to incorporate these new changes and come in under budget.

So, if you’re trying something new don’t get discouraged and realize it will start to feel more normal and easy. It probably won’t even take all that long. I was getting overwhelmed and coming in way over budget when I started adding juicing and more fresh raw veggies to our diet. However, this week, only a couple weeks into it I created our menu for 9 days, including at least 1 juice a day under our $100 a week budget!! YAY!! There is hope, so stick with those healthy changes because you CAN make it work.

During the last couple weeks we got our menu off track, so I did plan for this weekend through next, but I’ll just give you this week’s menu. πŸ™‚

Here’s what we’re eating this week:

Leftover Vegetable Lentil Curry (that recipe made a LOT!)
Naan

Grilled pork chops
corn, salad

Grilled Lemon Herb Fish
Steamed Broccoli
cucumber slices

Ham Avocado Melt
Southwest Salad

Homemade Pizza

Hamburgers
Sauteed Green Beans

Grilled Chicken
Salad and Corn

Our lunch ideas ~

Salads

Sandwhiches

Quesadillas

Tortellini Salad

Tuna Apple Salad

Breakfast Ideas:

Pure Veggie Juice

Fruit

Cereal

Oatmeal

Smoothies

I’ve been having a tough time coming up with lunch and breakfast ideas on the fly, so I decided to write down some ideas before lunch time happens. πŸ™‚ Now I know I have all the things I need in the house, and some ideas to run with.

So, that’s what’s on our plate this week… we’re linked up with OrgJunkie.com as always. If you need some menu ideas stop by and check out all the great menu plans people have cooked up this week.

I’ve told you before how I keep fruit frozen in the freezer to make frozen smoothies – my kids love them for brfst or lunch.

Peruvian style, we have our main meal at mid-day, so now that I’m back to cooking, I’m losing a couple of hours of my computer time – bummer! And it’s hard to get back into the groove in the afternoons, after a big lunch and trying to get the kid through his homework. I really need to start waking up earlier in order to get things done!

I decided to post my menu to Menu Plan Monday, and can’t seem to find it – is it not going up this week? Not that I expect you to know everything other people are doing with their blogs :S… But I want to make sure I’m not just being stupid or blind.

I totally love Trader Joes. I find their prices really reasonable and their selections on the healthier side. Do you have a Trader Joes where you live?
