Rebounding… A Quick Easy Work Out at Home

A while back I was introduced to the idea of rebounding… you know those mini trampolines you can use in the house? Turns out rebounding is really, really good for you. It actually exercises each and every cell of your body due to gravity, zero gravity at the top of the bounce and super g forces at the bottom of the bounce. It also gets your lymphatic system moving (your immune system) and can apparently help in 42 different ways!

So I, of course, rushed right out and bought a rebounder. Β Which quickly became another dust collector and cat and kid napping area. Β πŸ™‚

However, since I’ve committed to this “reboot”, which includes juicing, and more veggies I have been reintroduced by multiple people in the “healthy, whole food” community to rebounding, and it’s plethora of health benefits.

I dragged out the rebounder this morning, and did a quick search on Youtube for something or someone to follow. I found this 20 minute workout video… it’s a beginner’s video (which I totally needed!) I made it through the 20 minutes, sweating and heart beating up a storm. YAY.

Now, I just have a cheapo rebounder from Walmart, and it seems to work. You can find rebounders that cost well over 300 bucks though… how much better they are than mine? I don’t know.

What I really like about rebounding is you don’t have to do a really long time, and you can break up your bouncing throughout the day. I felt so much more energetic after I did some bouncing. I think it would be a great afternoon pick me up to stop and bounce for a few minutes. I’ve heard 10 minutes is a good starting point when you’re new to rebounding, which can be 2 or 3 minutes here or there throughout the day.

I find it much easier to follow along instead of just standing there bouncing by myself. I did some looking for rebounding DVDs today on Amazon. It appears the Urban Rebounder DVDs are really popular. People really seem to dig it. I like that each DVD has multiple workouts on it, and there are quite a few compilations to choose from. Those are definitely going on my wishlist.

I may also try downloading a podcast I want/need to listen to to my MP3 player, and listen while I’m bouncing, and of course you can set it in front of the TV and bounce while you watch… finally a way that makes TV a workout. πŸ™‚

My last love of the rebounder is this:

5 year olds LOVE to bounce… and… it takes a LOT of energy.

Lots of bouncing through the day makes for easy bedtime! So, if you are looking for something to get you up and away from your desk, a great workout, that’s quick and easy, I definitely recommend getting a rebounder and start bouncing! Who knows, maybe you already have one tucked away in a closet or the basement! You could get started today. πŸ™‚

Haha! You sound like me with my new treadmill! I’ve been doing 30 minutes a day, just steady walking in front of the TV, enough to get my heart beat up a little. I’m less concerned with losing weight (although that’d be GREAT!) and more concerned with just being healthier and less sedentary in general.

And I’m making the kid do a half hour a day every day too!

  2. SO COOL, Jackie! =) What a great idea to get a quick workout in throughout the day and I loved your testimony of how it gave you more energy. I definitely need more energy in my life these days!

My parents have a trampoline in Vancouver and I had never thought of using it for exercise. I spent most of my time lying there and reading a book. =P

Thanks for the encouragement to bring more activity to my life! =)

Am planning to buy a trampoline but I have to think about the pros and cons, you see, I have this two active kids. They might hit the rim. I still have to chose between trampoline and treadmill. I must have one exerciser, I am on the monitor almost 8 hours a day.

You can easily set a rebounder on its side in a corner when not in use. That’s what I do. Although, I’ve found my 5 year old is very good at staying in the middle. We started off with me holding her hands, and then progressed from there. Also they offer stability bars for rebounders that go across the top and give you something to hang on to. I definitely thought about getting one for her.

I did a harder 10 minute workout yesterday (from Youtube) and I was FEELING it. I never felt like that when I got off my treadmill. πŸ™‚
