Velocity Cruz: My New Favorite Toy

I am a book reader. I love books. I love to read… and then, there’s this thing called an “e reader”. I resisted for the longest of times, knowing I would not like it, knowing I would much rather read a book. Then around Christmas time I decided, what the heck, I’m gonna get me one. 🙂

I did a bunch of research online. I looked at a lot reviews. I took many factors into consideration. I went to the store so I could test them, and feel them. I’m not a gadget girl… which reminds me I need to add minutes to my tracphone. I don’t really know anything about touch screens and the like. I finally made up my mind, and turns out it was out of stock.

I came home and bought it online (on sale) and waited, waited, waited (not so patiently) for it to get here. Finally my Cruz arrived. It took me a couple days to get used to it, and to figure out how it worked. Then… I started falling in love with it. 🙂

I found the kindle app and added it and then I fell in love just a little bit more. Being a complete non tech person I was astounded that I could buy a book from Amazon and then automagically it would just appear on my reader. It is magic I tell you!

Then I found FREE books at Amazon and fell just a little more in love. 🙂 Nothing in the whole wide world beats free books. (well maybe a couple things, but it’s pretty close to the top of the list).

I recently picked up a meditation mp3 from Abraham Hicks. The mp3 came with a user guide. It was long, and I was NOT looking forward to sitting in front of my computer reading off the screen. That’s when I remembered there was a way to put the pdf on my reader. It took me a little bit of time to figure out how ~ and where to find it once it was on there, but I did, and completely enjoyed laying on the couch reading my pdf.

I truly thought I would not like it and would probably return it before the 30 day return policy ended. I’m excited to say that is not the case. I love my Cruz. It’s color. It connects to our wireless network here. I can check my email. I can tweet. I can check facebook. Everything I can do from my computer I can do from it. (although I totally SUCK at typing on it lol). I also like the fact it comes with a docking station. I can sit it on my desk, plugged in and charging and I don’t have to worry about the kiddo landing on it, or the dog jumping on it. It’s very handy. Once I get some cookbooks on it, the docking station will be even more handy in the kitchen. Also… one other thing, that I haven’t done… is it can be used as a electronic picture frame. You can set it on the docking station, and have it scroll through your pictures. Very cool.

The only thing I didn’t really like about it was how hard it is sometimes to get the pages of a book to turn. You really have to press because it’s not the same kind of super responsive screen as an Ipad. I did finally grab a stylus and that has totally helped out. It works perfectly and makes the whole thing much easier.

So… I’m sure you don’t want to hear me go on and on about my new favorite gadget, but if you’re on the fence about getting a reader ~ because you love books, I hear you. You might want to test it out and see what you think though. I was in the same place, and I love mine.
