Staying on Track in Your Business

As an entrepreneur there are a ton of things you have to keep an eye on. There’s always new things you learn and want to implement… trouble is doing everything you want to do, all at the same time. That’s where we have to prioritize and make some decisions. Whether it’s about what methods of promotion you’re going to use for your blog, how many backlinks you want to build in a day… you’ve got to decide what’s most important, and find a way to actually do it.

Here’s a few things I’ve used and found helpful to help me prioritize and stay on track.

Planners. I love these planners. They’re done by a fantastic blogger/entrepreneur named Charlie Gilkey. He has annual planners, quartery, monthly, weekly, and daily planners. This helps you see the big picture and bring the big picture into doable daily chunks. I do find his daily action planner works best for me as a weekly planner, but they are awesome.

Accountability. I find it easiest to stick with a plan when I know I am accountable to someone beside me and my 4 year old. I do this in a couple ways… I have an accountability partner that I talk with once or twice a week. We go over the plan and then discuss what we were able to accomplish during the week. I also have the Kiss Club. A great private online community that provides fantastic support and accountability.

Challenges. I love to give myself 7, 14 even 30 day challenges. This works especially well if I’m trying to implement something new. This way it becomes a habit and I end up sticking with it longer.

Organizational tools. These are great in conjunction with the challenges. For instance I’m starting a 30 day backlinking challenge today. I have set up a spread sheet to keep track of the work I do, and where for that challenge. That way, all the information is in one spot and I can easily see it. Next month I can start a new page in my spreadsheet and carry on. Being able to write down what I’ve done helps with accountability, but it also helps me not duplicate work I’ve already done because I forgot or couldn’t remember if I’d done it yet. So that saves time and energy.

Those are some of the tools I use to stay on track in my business. I’d love to hear what you use to keep yourself moving forward… please feel free to share your ideas and tools in the comments section. 🙂

  1. Hi

Ill second th recomendation on the planners. Ive used electornic systems and gone back to the paper planners much easier to interact with, lay a few month out on teh table and make notes.

My main driver is also Goals. wether theyare 30 days quaterly or annual goals.

The other main driver is to reduce the number of people i follow on emails, google reader etc. I use to follow a hundred plus now im really following 10.

Find the good guys listen to them a lot and ignore the rest.

    regards
