What the Heck’s a Swagbuck?

My WAHM journey started September 2010. I was a SAHM for 12 years and really did not want to enter the workforce outside of my home. No, I was not scared. I was selfish. I wanted control over my schedule. I wanted to continue the same life I had built with my husband, kids and friends but now earn money. I immediately looked online.

There are many ways to earn money online and with persistence this route can be lucrative. But don’t limit your imagination to direct sales or writing jobs. Think outside the box and diversify. My main activity is blogging where I earn affiliate sales but I recently came across a wonderful site called Swagbucks. Heard of it? It is a rewards site.

Before you get your panties in a bundle about how long it takes to gain points or how boring it can be, let me tell you, I have been there done that. I have done rewards sites before to work years and get a $100 gift card to some random site I will NEVER VISIT. So I can vouch for Swagbucks and say this not just your regular boring rewards site. Swagbucks is more of an experience; a community of people who are excited to earn.

Let me start by saying it is fun.

Last week I was in a hunt with other Swaggernauts (those are members of Swagbucks) for codes you can enter to earn free “Swagbucks” or points. I started at Twitter and heard that Swagbucks released clues to find the codes. I then rushed to the Swagbucks blog to get the clues. People had already commented which made hunting easier. It was a wild chase to find these codes by noon. How fun when I got my points by entering the codes I found.

Not into hunting for your points?

Every day I use the Swagbucks search engine to earn easy points. As you search, Swagbucks will award you with a random amount of points. On average I get 7-11 points after 3 searches. Don’t search often online? Well, you can do surveys, polls, shop, cut coupons. Oh! I love using their coupon feature. Print coupons for items you buy at the grocery store and earn 10 points for each one! You not only save at the store you get rewarded too!

More ways to earn at Swagbucks:

  • Trade in books or electronics
  • Participate in their Daily Deals
  • Watch video clips from E!, Food Network and DIY.
  • Play games
  • Complete tasks online
  • And more!

Once you earn enough points or Swagbucks you can cash them in for Swag or prizes. This was the defining moment for me before I joined. Will Swagbucks follow past points sites and give cheap rewards? Nope! Here are just a few goodies:

  • Donate to charities.
  • Gift cards: Amazon, Paypal, Lands’ End, Fandango and so many more!
  • Buy best-selling books, home appliances, school supplies video games and movies.
  • Or buy simple posters or Swagbucks t-shirts

I could go on but my point is the “Swag” or reward merchandise is good quality. No cashing in for some gift card to attempt to shop at some obscure site. And I am going to give it to you straight. Earning Swagbucks or points is easy.

Simply follow my have 3 tips:

  1. Participate every day. Be involved. Read the Swagbucks blog and follow SB on Twitter. Swagbucks is fun, not work. Yet you get to earn.
  2. Get referrals. I’m not going to lie to you, referrals help you earn more. You get matched points up to 1000. Yes, I am trying to sell Swagbucks to you. If you know me (if you don’t then check out my main blog) I ONLY suggest to my readers what I trust, love and have been successful at.
  3. Have fun! I don’t use Swagbucks as a main source of income (yet it can evolve into that) but I use it as a stress reliever in between writing my blog and marketing. I love how I can play a few games, read a fun blog and take surveys to make some extra cash (you can get PayPal deposits).

Check out Swagbucks for more. Happy earning fellow work-at-home-moms!
