Your Decisions = Your Destiny

I started reading Anthony Robbins book Awaken the Giant Within and I’m already inundated with amazing insights and AHA moments! YAY!

Here’s one of the moments I’ve had and wanted to share… I’d also like to have a conversation about this AHA moment… what do you think it could mean in your life if you chose to believe this as the truth?

Here it is (from Anthony Robbins):

Three decisions that you make every moment of your life control how your destiny. These three decisions determine what you’ll notice, how you’ll feel, what you’ll do, and ultimately what you’ll contribute and who you become. If you don’t control these three decisions, you simply aren’t in control of your life. When you do control them, you begin to sculpt your experience.

The three decisions that control your destiny are:

1. Your decisions about what to focus on.

2. Your decisions about what things mean to you.

3. Your decisions about what to do to create the results you desire.

You see, it’s not what’s happening to you now or what has happened in your past that determines who you become. Rather, it’s your decisions about what to focus on, what things mean to you, and what you’re going to do about them that will determine your ultimate destiny.

What do you think? This makes absolute sense to me and really gets me thinking about the decisions I’m making in my life… and how those decisions ~ or lackthereof have made a difference in my life.

So what about you? How can you start making those three important decisions MORE in your life?! Let’s talk about it in the comments.

  1. Jackie,

Every so often I get these AHA moments. Since I had children 13 years ago, I have had so many!

I’m gonna change the subject slightly but I’ll come back.

I read somewhere this “You cannot control how people act, but you CAN control how you react.” I think this is powerful because all of us want things but sometimes can’t get them so the best thing to do is change your strategy.

This is where your AHA moment comes in. At that point, what do you focus on? What really matters? And how are you going to handle it?

These steps and decisions create your own destiny. These give YOU the power, nobody else. And an empowered person is very heard to stop.

Absolutely Allie! and the whole controlling your reaction was yet another big AHA moment for me when I heard it. Now trying to teach it to my 5 year old lol… 🙂 If you think about it, the 3 decisions factor into EVERYTHING… He also spoke earlier in the book about making a decisions about what you want (or who you want to be) and once you’ve made that decision you have this killer framework to make all these other decisions around. Those three things lined up with a unbreakable decision to move in a certain direction… makes you just about unstoppable (if you do it!) Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate it!

      • The hardest part is FOCUS. I think there is so much in our lives these days that pull us in so many directions we forget what really matters. A couple of years ago I decided to focus on MY primary needs- My sanity, my health, my family, my friends- in that order. It sounds selfish, but as moms we understand that our sanity is primary for a healthy family.

As you focus on the primary, the secondary will fall in place nicely. But focus is the hardest part. Like you said, those 3 questions help you create unbreakable decisions and you can then move in that direction. We just need to figure out what to focus on. I believe many people are lost in that decision, unfortunately.

I agree that people are lost in that decision… not so much lost as SCARED. It seems people are afraid to stand firmly and make a decision for fear it might be the wrong one, might not go “right” or whatever… HOWEVER!! those wrong decisions are the ones we learn the most from. I read this quote recently that kicked my ass…
When people succeed they party, but when they fail they ponder (or something quite close to that lol)… when we fail we take time to think about how things went, what we could have done differently etc… those are the moments we grow. So we’ve got to stop being afraid of making decisions because we might fail…

          • I think you nailed it. That is where I fail, I get scared. I hate failing, especially when it involves others with me. I better start to “Just Do It”. LOL.

I love the conversation. I Tweeted, FB and SU’d it. I hope you get more here to join the conversation.

    Hi Jackie,

This is the first time at your site. So proud of you as a superstar mum, making a difference and all.

I am a big Tony Robbins fan too. His work makes so much sense and is so powerful. When I first read his book, I had so many aha moments too. I did not know that our state determine so many things in life. And I did not know tools and methods are available to change our state.

Focus, meaning and actions are so powerful in my life now. These are actually really fundamental and obvious concepts, but yet for those not awakened they can be totally lost to it.

For me further sub dividing my focus and actions help. I like to have concrete steps in my life to help me. Each day it’s about moving forward step by step towards our dreams.
